West Indies vs South Africa
STUMPS, 1st Test, Gros Islet, Jun 10 - 14 2021,
West Indies 97 all out South Africa 128/4
Day 1 - South Africa lead by 31 runs. CRR: 2.97
South Africa bowled an excellent line and length on a lively pitch at the Daren Sammy Cricket Ground in St. Lucia. The Proteas were asked to bowl which proved to be the wrong decision as the West Indian batsmen struggled to cope with the pace and guile of the South African attack. Anrich Nortje ripped through the top order with an aggressive spell followed by Ngidi taking an inspired five-for and cleaning up the tail.
The West indies batsmen provided little resistance and kept on playing their shots as they showed little respect for the Protea bowlers. 97 all out was the West Indies' lowest test total against South Africa.
The newly appointed Protea captain, Dean Elgar will be disappointed in himself for going after a wide delivery from Kemar Roach. He was back in the pavilion for a duck. Keegen Petersen looked good for his 19 runs and Kyle Verreynne played a false shot to a wide delivery and threw away his wicket on debut. More is expected from Verreynne with a first class average of 56. Markram and Van der Dussen looked solid, but Markram succumbed for 60 from a good delivery by the 19 year old Jayden Seales who took three wickets so far on debut. Van der Dussen and De Kock will have to kick on and push us towards a total of at least 250. Good luck boys!
